Meet Arty-D, real name unknown… Born in the early 1800’s in London, his ol’ man made his fortune during the Gordon Riots of 1780 when a mob took to the streets for reasons far too boring to mention. They burned down Langdale distillery and Arty’s dad ‘acquired’ one of the old gin stills.

He apparently helped open Thompson & Fearson’s, London’s first gin palace. Legend has it, that it was his idea to have them decked out all fancy like the department stores were doing, polished mahogany and golden embellishments. This would explain a lot, the lavish luxury combined with downright debauchery is very much his forte. At the very least he’ll probably tell you he wrote their first menu… You’ll soon learn there isn’t a decent bar in London that he hasn’t either worked behind the sticks or propped up the other side of the bar.

It’s tough to know what’s man, what’s myth and what’s legend with Arty, he once said “My word is my bond, but I never let the truth get in the way of a good story…”
